Specialist Domestic Abuse Helpline & Intake Practitioner


Reporting to: Senior Specialist Domestic Abuse Practitioner
Workstyle: Office-based with flexibility. Some out-of-hours and district-wide working required.

About the Role

Our client is seeking a committed and skilled Specialist Domestic Abuse Helpline & Intake Practitioner to join our frontline team.

This is a vital role providing the first point of contact for victims of domestic abuse, professionals, and partner agencies. You will deliver an immediate, co-ordinated response to those at risk, prioritising individuals at highest risk of harm.

As part of a multi-agency team, you will triage referrals, assess risk and needs, and ensure safety planning is in place. You will also work with partners to establish immediate protection, make appropriate onward referrals, and maintain accurate case management records.

This is a challenging but rewarding opportunity to make a real difference to peoples lives at a critical time.

Key Responsibilities
* Act as first point of contact for enquiries and referrals.

* Operate a helpline service offering advice, information, and emotional support to victims and professionals.

* Triage and assess risk using evidence-based tool, prioritising those at highest risk.

* Provide immediate safety planning, advice on civil/criminal remedies, refuge placement, and urgent interventions.

* Liaise with professionals and partner agencies to ensure effective safeguarding responses.

* Support referrals and work alongside Specialist Domestic Abuse Practitioners to maintain safety.

* Record all case information accurately on case management systems, contributing to monitoring and evaluation.

* Promote a client-centred, inclusive approach that recognises cultural, social, and safeguarding needs.

The client is looking for someone with:

Essential:

* An IDVA qualification, relevant degree, or equivalent knowledge/skills from relevant employment.

* Substantial experience working in the field of domestic abuse.

* Strong knowledge of domestic abuse dynamics, safeguarding (children & adults), and relevant legal frameworks.

* Experience in multi-agency partnership working.

* Proven ability to carry out risk assessments, manage crisis situations, and provide safety planning.

* Excellent communication, organisational, and IT skills

* Standard DBS is required for this role

Desirable:

* Basic counselling qualification.

* Knowledge of housing needs, homelessness, and sanctuary provision.

* Experience in working with complex needs, including perpetrators, HBV, Forced Marriage, FGM, and communities with No Recourse to Public Funds.

* Experience in delivering training, guidance, or professional advice on domestic abuse

* This is working in a supportive environment with opportunities for development.

* Flexible working arrangements where service needs allow

This is an office based role working Monday to Friday 8.30am to 5pm
