Any offers of appointment will be conditional and subject to a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check, a certificate of good conduct if applicable, plus receipt of satisfactory employment references, Occupational Health clearance, an understanding of safeguarding and qualifications verification. An Enhanced DBS check is required for this position as you will be working within 'Regulated Activity' within a specific place (i.e. the College).

This role is classed as working within Regulated Activity. It is an offence to apply for this role if you are barred from engaging in regulated activity relevant to children. By applying for this position you agree to an Enhanced DBS check in line with DBS regulations.

Background to the Post

The programme is specifically designed to engage with 16-25 year olds who are not in education, employment or training (NEETs) and provides them with an opportunity to re-engage in learning, participate in community projects, team work and individual work placements. Participants to the programme may exhibit challenging behaviours and the postholder will be expected to work effectively with this group. The programme gives young people a unique opportunity to work as a team in undertaking worthwhile and challenging activities.

To ensure that all our students reach their potential and are not discriminated against we wish to appoint an assistant Team Leader to provide support to the three Team Leaders on their programmes and cover the delivery of the programme in the Team Leader's absence. There may also be the requirement to deliver workshops to students.

The purpose of this post is to assist the team leader and provide support to the students on the team programme. Time will be spent with students in the classroom who need extra help to keep them focussed, on task and up to date. The Programme will require the post holder to accompany the students on the residential between 3 to 9 times per year and off-site or to other College centres to undertake projects, enterprises or other activities associated with the course programme. There will be a requirement to undertake administrative tasks relating to student retention and achievement.

The person appointed will report to the King's Trust Co-ordinator and work alongside the King's Trust team leaders as directed by the Co-ordinator. The post will work and support programmes in at least 5 areas within our delivery locations in Warwickshire, Coventry, and Worcestershire.

This post will be based in Leamington Spa, with travel required across Teams.

Duties and Responsibilities

* To provide support in class, or support outside the classroom as directed by the King's Trust Co-ordinator.
* To assist the King's Trust team leaders with the preparation of materials or activities for named student use.
* To work closely with the team to ensure that individual student targets are being monitored and reviewed.
* In conjunction with the team, maintain a system to record named student progress.
* With knowledge/permission of the King's Trust team leader, make contact with parents, guardians or key workers of those students under 18, either by telephone or in writing.
* To act as a trouble-shooter and work with the students to ensure they meet deadlines and catchup on any missed work.
* To attend team meetings.
* To undertake training and development as appropriate.
* To accompany and support students during work experience placements, and/or trips, residentials both on and off site if appropriate.
* To undertake administrative duties which will include keeping own record book, sending absence notes/cause for concern forms to team members, updating the team with student progress report.
* Work collaboratively with the team to produce Individual Risk Assessment, Personal Emergency Evacuation Plans and Medical Protocols.
* Contribute to student reports if required.
* Other such duties as are necessary for the maintenance and development of the Team Programme

LEAVE ENTITLEMENT

The College offers a generous leave entitlement to support staff, of 38 days leave (includes 25 days leave, 8 statutory Bank Holidays, 4 College closure days at Christmas and an annual Relaxed Day) pro rata for part time. This will rise to 41 days after 5 years' service.

Hours of Work

The post holder will be expected to work such hours as are necessary for the proper performance of their duties and responsibilities, normally 37 hours per week.

Place of Work

The initial place of work will be in Leamington Spa. However, the post holder may be required to work on either a temporary or an indefinite basis at any premises as needed, or within the local community in Birmingham.

Person Specification

Essential Attainments:

* Educated to Level 2 (e.g. GCSEs Grades A-C, Level 2 NVQ, Level 2 Diploma or equivalent qualifications).
* GCSE Grade C or above in English and Mathematics or equivalent (e.g. L2 Functional Skills English & Maths).
* Excellent IT skills
* A First Aid qualification or willingness to gain this.

Desirable Attainments:

* Previous experience of student support / working with students or in a related youth work, school, SEN, young people based-setting.
* Previous experience of working with students with challenging behaviours, students with special educational needs.
* Previous experience of working in Further Education.
* Relevant Vocational background – Sport, Basic Skills, IT, Public Services or Art.
