Job summary
This is a 9PA substantive general paediatric consultant post arising due to retirement. It is based at Good Hope Hospital with duties across sites.
We invite applications to join our team of general paediatricians providing acute assessment, inpatient, and outpatient services to our local population. We seek to work together to improve the health of children and families across our service. We are particularly seeking a colleague with diabetes interest to join our cross-site diabetes MDT -- we have a large and diverse patient group, with the Good Hope team voted UHB Diamond Team of the year 2019/20 and a leading clinic nationally in Hybrid Closed Loop systems.

Job description
Job responsibilities
Our Good Hope base has a 12-bed assessment and inpatient unit supporting GP referrals and a busy ED, and a Level 1 neonatal unit supporting 4500 deliveries per annum. The medical team includes 10 consultants and a full middle and first tier rota. We work together with the larger inpatient unit at Heartlands which has a paediatric HDU. Our consultants provide a variety of subspecialty services.
Distribution of PA's
In principle the job plan will comprise a maximum of 9 PA's with breakdown as below
* PA's - for Direct Clinical Care (including on-calls & clinics)
* PA's for 'Supporting Professional Activities' to support annual appraisal & revalidation with General Medical Council including active involvement in departmental and Trust governance and Quality improvement process ( reviewing and scoping of incidents, participation in departmental and national audits).
* PA flexible for DCC or other duties as agree with clinical service lead.
Clinical work responsibilities (minimum PA's per week)
The post holder will be mainly based at the Good Hope site but will be expected to be able to work at any of the other sites
*Out of hours on calls will be at Good Hope Hospital covering general paediatrics, and Level 1 Neonatal unit. Current frequency is approximately 1 in 10. This includes onsite presence until hours (Mon -- Friday) and until on weekends/bank holidays.
*Consultants work a 'Consultant of the week' pattern in all service areas. General Paediatrics ward work may be shared across the Heartlands and Good Hope sites.
*Outpatient activity (50-70 clinics per year) will be across the Good Hope, Solihull and Heartlands sites as required.
*All consultants provide general paediatric services. Subspecialty interests will be considered with the substantive appointment looking towards diabetes as preferred interest.
Supporting responsibilities ( core PA)
*Participation in teaching and training of junior staff and those in other medical disciplines, nursing and support staff as appropriate.
*Participation in regional acute paediatric training (RAPT) to maintain acute paediatric skills
*Research training, including GCP and clinical trial administration
*Participation in clinical governance activities including audits, and other supporting activities as directed by the needs of the service.
*Responding and engaging with any complaints or investigations within the trust
*Attending statutory, essential and mandatory training.
*Attending and keeping up to date with child safeguarding training as per trust requirements
