Network Security Engineer (SOC)
Take ownership of complex network security infrastructures within a high‑integrity defence environment where your technical decisions directly protect national interests. You will move beyond basic monitoring to actively shape firewall architectures and rapid response protocols across a sophisticated internal estate. The Essentials
* British citizenship is required for this role, due to security restrictions
* Proven experience with enterprise firewall platforms such as Cisco, Palo Alto, or Checkpoint.
* Comprehensive understanding of TCP/IP, routing, switching, and VLAN architectures.
* UK SC clearance required or willingness to obtain SC clearance.
Your package
Up to £60,000 per annum including a dedicated £7,969 shift allowance.
Key responsibilities
* Manage and optimize high‑availability firewall and proxy environments to ensure robust perimeter protection.
* Lead the technical response to security incidents by performing deep‑packet analysis and traffic interrogation.
* Collaborate with internal security teams to design and implement secure network segmentation and SSL decryption policies.
* Maintain the integrity of security appliances through proactive lifecycle management and complex troubleshooting.
* Provide technical subject matter expertise during out‑of‑hours response windows to mitigate emerging threats.
Skills and background
* Strong technical background in network engineering with a focus on security hardware.
* Hands‑on experience configuring and managing Next‑Generation Firewalls and secure web gateways.
* Familiarity with network monitoring tools such as PRTG or Nagios for maintaining estate visibility.
* Ability to analyse complex traffic flows to distinguish between administrative actions and potential threats.
* Clear communication skills for reporting technical risks to both engineering and leadership teams.
