Our client is seeking a motivated Technical Survey and Service Engineer to support the UK’s transition to low‑carbon heating. Role Overview
You’ll lead the technical surveying and design process for residential heat pump and solar installations, ensuring every system is efficient, compliant, and tailored to the property. This includes conducting on‑site surveys, producing accurate heat‑loss calculations, and supporting field teams with occasional servicing and reactive maintenance.
This role is ideal for someone with hands‑on plumbing or renewable heating experience who is ready to move off the tools and into a more technical, design‑driven position.
Key Responsibilities
* Carry out detailed on‑site technical surveys to assess heat pump suitability
* Produce accurate heat‑loss calculations and system sizing
* Provide technical guidance to installation teams and project managers
* Conduct annual heat pump servicing and occasional reactive maintenance
* Support the development and improvement of survey and design processes
* Troubleshoot and refine system designs based on real‑world installation feedback
* Stay up to date with industry standards, products, and best practices
Requirements
You’ll be an experienced heating engineer with strong knowledge of heating system design and the ability to diagnose faults confidently.
Essential
* Proven experience working with heat pump systems
* Strong understanding of building fabric, heat loss, and hydronic systems
* Confident and professional with customers
* Familiarity with MCS standards and compliance requirements
* Excellent attention to detail with the ability to balance accuracy and efficiency
* Comfortable working in a fast‑paced, evolving startup environment
* Willing to travel for up to two surveys per day
* Clean UK driving licence
* NVQ Level 3 or above in plumbing or heating
Preferable
* BPEC or equivalent qualification in heat pump design
* Experience leading teams or managing technical workflows
