Join Our Team as a 1:1 SEN Tutor – Make a Lasting Impact on a Child’s Learning Journey Teaching Personnel is proud to support children and young people with Special Educational Needs (SEN) who are not currently accessing mainstream education. We are seeking patient, skilled, and compassionate tutors to provide tailored 1:1 tuition to SEN pupils who require additional support to thrive. This is a meaningful opportunity to work directly with learners who benefit from structured, individualised teaching and to help them achieve both academic and personal growth. About the Role As a 1:1 SEN tutor, you will deliver personalised sessions in the pupil’s home or a suitable local setting. These learners may be awaiting school placements, transitioning between settings, or currently unable to attend school due to complex needs. Students you will support may present with a range of needs, including: Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC) ADHD and ADD Moderate to Severe Learning Difficulties (MLD/SLD) Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN) Anxiety and school-based trauma Each learner’s programme is carefully designed to suit their individual needs and learning pace. Ideal Candidates This role would suit: Qualified teachers (QTS/QTLS) with SEN experience Specialist SEN tutors or support staff with strong 1:1 or small-group experience Professionals with backgrounds in education, psychology, therapy, or inclusion Individuals who are passionate about working with vulnerable learners and who adopt a patient, nurturing, and flexible teaching approach Tuition typically ranges from 1 to 15 hours per week, depending on each student’s engagement and educational plan. Key Focus Areas While academic development is important, much of the role involves: Building trusting relationships to improve student engagement Supporting literacy, numeracy, and life skills at an appropriate level Developing emotional regulation, routine, and readiness to learn Assisting with transition support (e.g., reintegration into a school setting) Requirements QTS, QTLS, or equivalent preferred; however, strong SEN experience will also be considered A solid understanding of SEND best practices and differentiated teaching methods Ability to plan and deliver personalised, creative, and engaging lessons Strong communication skills and a collaborative approach with families and professionals A calm, consistent, and empathetic demeanour Knowledge of safeguarding principles and the ability to work within professional boundaries What We Offer Flexible working hours to suit your availability Hourly pay between £20–£25, depending on experience and nature of support Immediate start dates or the option to begin when ready Access to ongoing CPD and SEN-specific training Regular support from a dedicated team of education specialists PAYE pay with pension contributions and online reporting systems If you’re committed to supporting SEN learners and making a genuine difference in their development and well-being, we would love to hear from you.
