Our client is one of the fastest growing providers of Cold Chain Logistics. They require a POD Engineer to join their busy team onsite team on a permanent basis. Offering a salary of £52,882 per annum the role is based 5 days out of 7, with a core pattern of Monday to Friday, 08:00am to 17:00pm - there is occasional weekend work. Key Responsibilities: We are seeking a proactive and technically capable POD Engineer to ensure the safe, reliable and efficient operation of the automated conveyor systems that interface with trailers, including powered chains, motors, air systems and associated control components. This role delivers planned preventative maintenance (PPM), reactive fault response and spare parts management for both fixed automation and trailer-mounted equipment. You will play a key part in maximising uptime, maintaining compliance with site and OEM standards, and supporting the smooth flow of goods through the automated loading process. Ideally based locally to your POD based in Scarborough Intermittent travel expected across all other client UK sites and customer locations, to support with maintenance and operational requirements. Depending on location, hotel accommodation will be arranged with your line manager, costs to be covered by the business and associated travel expenses. Key Duties: Automated Conveyor & Trailer Interface Systems Maintain and service automated conveyor systems feeding trailers. Work on motors, gearboxes, chains, rollers, sprockets, bearings and transfer units. Support automation interfaces between warehouse systems and trailers. Diagnose mechanical, electrical and pneumatic faults at conveyor-trailer handover points. Trailer Maintenance Deliver full PPM servicing of trailers, including powered floor systems, motors and pneumatic systems. Inspect air pressure lines, valves, hoses and connectors. Conduct condition checks during docked and undocked periods. Identify wear trends and recommend component replacements ahead of failure. Carry out cleaning of trailers as required. Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) Execute structured PPM schedules including daily/weekly inspections, monthly servicing, quarterly checks and annual overhauls. Record all PPM activity in the site CMMS or maintenance logs. Ensure compliance with site safety, food safety and cold-store standards. Reactive Maintenance & Fault Response Provide first-line reactive breakdown support for automation and trailer systems. Troubleshoot faults quickly to minimise downtime. Escalate complex issues to manufacturers or specialist support when required. Support recovery plans following major failures. Spare Parts & Inventory Management Manage on-site spare parts inventory for conveyors and trailer systems. Maintain accurate stock levels for motors, gearboxes, chains, sprockets, bearings, sensors, air fittings and trailer-specific components. Monitor usage trends and forecast future demand. Raise replenishment requests and support standardisation of parts to reduce SKU complexity and cost. Safety, Compliance & Continuous Improvement Work in line with LOTO and site safety procedures. Identify reliability risks and propose improvement actions. Support continuous improvement initiatives to reduce breakdown frequency. Provide technical feedback to operations and engineering management. Must be comfortable working in sub-zero freezer conditions of -19C and below. Requirements: NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in electrical or mechanical engineering. Experience working with pneumatics, electrical, and mechanical systems. Competence in PPMs and structured maintenance routines. Ability to work with OEM equipment and documentation. Experience with inventory tracking for engineering spare parts.
