Location: Salisbury, Wiltshire, UK
Salary: £50,000‑£60,000
Callen‑Lenz is expanding rapidly and seeks an Air Vehicle Design Engineer to advance our UAS development.


About the Role

As an Air Vehicle Design Engineer you will report to the Air Vehicle Design Manager and be part of a multidisciplinary team. You will deliver engineering outputs for our UAV platforms, working closely with production, flight test, avionics, software specialists, programme management and customers.


Responsibilities

* Act as project engineer or design lead for UAV design and modification projects, ensuring timely completion of tasks.
* Capture and derive requirements, designing solutions that meet customer needs.
* Develop UAVs across subsystems (aerodynamics, structure, electrical wiring, powerplant, vehicle systems).
* Design for manufacture and collaborate with manufacturing to support prototype and serial production.
* Manage technical aspects of suppliers to meet requirements and timelines.
* Serve as technical point of contact with customers, communicating progress throughout the system design lifecycle.
* Lead and execute subsystem testing; prepare and support vehicle‑level testing.
* Deploy configuration control and documentation appropriate to projects.
* Support and present at major technical reviews (PDR, CDR, TRR) and compliance verification activities.
* Coordinate across departments (FlOps, Logistics, Security, Management) for successful project delivery.


Health and Safety

* Demonstrate a commitment to health and safety in daily activities.
* Report hazards and incidents appropriately.
* Participate in health and safety training as required.


Skills

Essential
* Proficiency in spoken and written English.
* Proficient in 3D CAD using SolidWorks or comparable software.
* Experience applying first principles to mechanical system sizing.
* Design for manufacture and assembly techniques for prototypes and production.
* Technical report writing and presentation skills.
Desirable
* Systems engineering experience in aerospace or related environment.
* Experience with rapid prototyping tools (3D printing, laser cutting, CNC milling).
* Composite material lay‑up and design for manufacture experience.
* Configuration and document management experience.
* Experience with aerospace materials including composites.
* Electrical installation design experience.
* Aircraft powerplant system design and integration experience.
* Use of aerodynamic tools for evaluation and design decisions.
* Problem‑solving ability under tight timescales.
* Requirements verification and validation experience.
* Customer technical interfacing experience.
* Hands‑on UAV building/testing experience.


Personal Attributes

* Must be a British citizen or have an existing right to work in the UK and have resided in the UK for five years.
* Ability to work on‑site in Chilmark, Salisbury.
* Occasional national and international travel.
* Ability to hold security clearance.
* Enthusiastic and self‑motivated.
* Confident team player.
