Analytical Chemist – Chromatography & Solid-State Characterisation (6–12 Month Contract)

A leading scientific organisation is seeking an adaptable and motivated Analytical Chemist to join their team, supporting a diverse portfolio of projects in a quality-regulated laboratory environment.
This organisation is home to some of the world’s best particle scientists. They understand the criticality of de-risking solid form selection, optimising particle engineering, and understanding the link between particle properties and product performance. From their state-of-the-art facilities in Sandwich, UK, they provide lab and consultancy services tailored to meet customers' needs, timelines and budgets.
Key Responsibilities
* Perform analytical testing using HPLC/UPLC systems, including troubleshooting and method optimisation.
* Support solid-state characterisation activities (e.g., XRPD, DSC, TGA, microscopy).
* Accurately record, interpret, and report analytical data.
* Adhere to laboratory quality systems (GLP/GMP/ISO).
* Maintain and operate laboratory equipment.
* Collaborate with project teams to meet analytical timelines.
* Demonstrate flexibility and willingness to learn new analytical and characterisation techniques.
* Contribute to quality investigations, CAPAs, SOP revisions, and calibration oversight.
* Produce high-quality scientific reports.
* Mentor and support junior colleagues.
Key Requirements
* Practical laboratory experience in analytical chemistry, with independent capability in chromatographic techniques (HPLC/UPLC).
* Strong troubleshooting skills for analytical instrumentation and methods.
* Ability to perform or rapidly learn solid-state characterisation techniques.
* Strong documentation, reporting, and scientific communication skills.
* Awareness and experience with regulated laboratory quality systems (GLP/GMP/ISO).
* Ability to plan and manage workload independently, with excellent organisational skills.
* Willingness to mentor, train, and collaborate with colleagues.
* Experience with method development, optimisation, or validation is desirable.
* Involvement in quality oversight, audit preparation, or implementation of new analytical techniques/equipment is advantageous.
