Summary:
Are you ready to serve your community from the center of public safety? The Town of Shrewsbury Police Department is seeking qualified, dependable, and motivated candidates to join our team as a Full-time Dispatcher. This position is vital to our department’s success, serving as the critical link between emergency responders and the public. It is the mission of the Shrewsbury Police Department to consistently deliver quality police service to the community we serve.
About Us:
The Town of Shrewsbury, located just 40 miles west of Boston and adjacent to Worcester, is a thriving suburban community of 38,000 residents. Our Police Department is committed to community engagement and collaborative public safety efforts to reduce crime and enhance quality of life. We operate out of a newly constructed state-of-the-art Police Station and Dispatch Center, designed for 21st-century public safety needs.
Key Responsibilities:
Receive and process emergency and non-emergency calls for service
Dispatch police and other emergency personnel in a calm, accurate, and timely manner
Maintain detailed records of calls, responses, and unit locations
Operate communications systems, databases, and other dispatch technology
Provide information and support to officers, other departments, and the public
Multitask effectively in a high-pressure environment, maintaining professionalism at all times
What We’re Looking For:
Excellent verbal communication and listening skills
Ability to stay calm and make quick, sound decisions under pressure
Detail-oriented and highly organized with strong multitasking abilities
Self-disciplined, reliable, and committed to community service
Previous experience in dispatch, emergency communications, or law enforcement support preferred, but not required
