🛠️ Job Description:
This is a multi-skilled engineering role with a 50/50 split between mechanical and electrical responsibilities. The role is hands-on and critical to the smooth running of processing and packaging operations.
Key Responsibilities:
Conduct planned preventative maintenance (PPM) on food processing and packaging machinery
Respond rapidly and effectively to machinery breakdowns
Diagnose and repair faults in:
Electrical systems (motors, control circuits, motion control, encoders, PLCs, sensors)
Mechanical systems (fabrication, welding, hydraulics, pneumatics, machining, thermodynamics)
Instrumentation and automation
Oversee external contractors when required, including cost approval and logging
Support production teams with machinery changeovers and setup
Manufacture and repair component parts for in-house machinery
Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives focused on asset and process optimisation
Take part in decision-making for new machinery purchases and upgrades
✅ Candidate Profile:
Essential Qualifications / Experience:
Completed engineering apprenticeship (e.g. C&G / EAL NVQ Level 3 or 4, or equivalent diploma)
Sound understanding of both mechanical and electrical engineering principles
Familiarity with the IET Wiring Regulations (C&G Level 3) - must be achieved within 12 months if not already held
Desirable Attributes:
Proactive, self-sufficient, and able to work independently
Comfortable in a fast-paced production environment
Hands-on experience in the food, FMCG, or manufacturing sector preferred
