Medical Same Day Emergency Care Ward Clerk

Responsibilities
* Be the first point of contact for the unit, dealing with visitors and directing all enquiries and day‑to‑day problems to the appropriate person/department.
* Demonstrate good interpersonal and communication skills while working effectively as part of a team within the hospital environment.
* Ensure patient records are accurately recorded on the patient information system.
* Deal with all enquiries via telephone and face‑to‑face with patients, staff, internal and external agencies, escalating to the appropriate member of the medical team when necessary.
* Assist in maintaining the reception area at all times in an orderly state and report any adverse matters to senior staff or the security office.
* Provide clerical and administrative support, including data input, word processing and spreadsheets, to support the use of clinical and corporate systems.
* Admit, discharge and transfer patients in a timely manner, ensuring real‑time activity is always maintained.
* Maintain confidentiality, safety and security of the reception area, reporting any adverse matters to senior staff and/or the security office.

Person Specification
* Organisational and prioritisation skills
* Possess a degree of initiative and basic independent judgement
* Must be able to work in a calm, courteous and efficient manner
* Open‑minded with dignity and respect
* Willingness to be trained
* NVQ Level 2 or equivalent in Health Care Administration
* Previous healthcare environment experience
