The Opportunity
A leading regional civil engineering contractor is seeking an experienced Project Manager to deliver a portfolio of Capital Works projects in South Wales.
The business is appointed to a stable, recurring 5-year AMP framework and is at the start of the AMP8 cycle, offering a rare opportunity to secure a long-term contract on technically interesting and high-value infrastructure schemes.
Due to workload across multiple programmes, multiple Project Manager roles are available, providing excellent continuity of work within a growing contractor environment.
This is a freelance position with an immediate start, with the option to transition into a permanent role after 3–6 months if desired.
Project Scope
You will manage a diverse portfolio of major water and infrastructure capital works, including:
* Sewage treatment works upgrades and refurbishments
* Large reinforced concrete structures and process assets
* Shaft sinking and deep excavations
* Reservoirs, dams, and storage infrastructure
* Large-diameter pipeline installations and extensions
* Associated civils, earthworks, and infrastructure packages
* Typical project values range from £5m to £50m+, with a long-term programme of secured works extending through AMP8 and beyond.
Key Responsibilities
* Manage the delivery of capital works projects from planning through to handover
* Lead site teams, subcontractors, and supply chain partners
* Ensure projects are delivered safely, on programme, and within budget
* Manage commercial performance, risk, and change control
* Interface with design teams, site engineers, and senior stakeholders
* Oversee QA, documentation, and technical compliance
* Drive programme, performance, and team development across multiple schemes
About You
* Proven experience as a Project Manager in water, infrastructure, heavy civils, or structures
* Track record delivering RC structures, pipelines, treatment works, or major civils packages
* Strong leadership and commercial awareness
* Comfortable managing multi-disciplinary teams in a contractor-led environment
* Proactive, organised, and motivated by long-term framework delivery rather than one-off projects
