Consultant in General and Emergency Surgery Barnet Hospital - Applications are invited for a 10 PAs Consultant post in General and Emergency Surgery at Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust based on the Barnet site

Day Case Surgery, Laparoscopic Surgery, Endoscopy, Gall Bladder, Emergency General Surgery
There will be a 1 in 12 on call and a 1 in 6 Surgeon of the Week rota.
Main clinical duties and responsibilities of the post
Work as an Emergency General Surgeon and to be involved in a sub-specialist area of surgery that will complement the interests of the department.Provide hands on clinical leadership to the emergency general surgery pathway operating in accordance with the operational policy.Contribute to teaching, including undergraduate teaching, and the teaching and professional development of junior medical staff.Share in the general administrative and management responsibilities of the departments and participate in the R & D programmes of the department.Participate in the supervision and training of specialty trainees and clinical scientists, teaching of other junior trainees, medical students and hospital staff as appropriate.Participate in clinical audit and quality improvement Participate in service development and policy review.Participate in CPD and quality assurance activity including annual appraisal and re-validation.
Main duties of the job
The following is not an exhaustive list of the duties of a consultant.
* Provide senior clinician services to both the Emergency Department and the General Surgery Department as per job plan or as agreed within the Trust, and as required when on call.
* Work with consultant colleagues and nursing staff to ensure efficient use of Trust's resources and contribute actively to clinical governance in the department and to development of quality enhancement projects in the unit.
* Provide senior clinician services to area of special interest
* Show flexibility within allocated DCC sessions at the request of the clinical manager, as the need arises.
* Actively participate in the departments Teaching Programme and undertake supervision, teaching and training of medical trainees and other multi-professional staff
* Actively participate in clinical guidelines development, audit and CPD.

Person Specification
Qualifications/Training
* Full GMC registration with a licence to practice.
* Entry on the GMC Specialist Register (via CCT, CESR or European Community Rights) or eligible within 6 months. Previous locum consultant experience
* Leadership and Management qualification
* Postgraduate degree or MSc in relevant specialty
* Substantial experience in Emergency General Surgery
* Experienced in emergency general laparoscopic surgery, including hot gallbladder surgery and colorectal Surgery
* JAG accreditation in Colonoscopy with advanced endoscopy techniques
* Ability to supervise the clinical work of doctors in training and other staff
* Strong teaching skills and experience
* Ability to organise and prioritise personal workload
* Willingness and skills to recognise and challenge Personal unacceptable behaviour and if necessary escalate
* Specialist interest complementary to existing services
* Experience of TAMIS and Stapled haemorroidopexy/HALO
