A fantastic opportunity has arisen within our Cancer Service for a senior sister on ward 25 at Milton Keynes University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. We are looking for a passionate, enthusiastic, proactive and motivated Registered Nurse to assist us in delivering exceptional care for the public of Milton Keynes.
Key Responsibilities
* Act as a professional role model, leading and coordinating the nursing team.
* Maintain continuous responsibility for the management and organisation of the ward within available resources.
* Provide excellent nursing care and work collaboratively with the multidisciplinary team.
* Assess the effectiveness of current practices and introduce innovations to improve quality of care.
* Maintain the highest standards of patient care, ensuring quality and compassion are top priorities.
* Develop and maintain a quality service, ensuring all staff understand key objectives and ambitions of the unit.
* Provide clinical leadership, challenging and encouraging staff to maintain high standards.
* Participate in the development of divisional and trust policies, ensuring alignment with strategic plans.
* Ensure effective utilisation of staffing resources over a 24‑hour period, maintaining safe staffing levels and budget compliance.
* Monitor ward workload and patient acuity to ensure appropriate staffing ratios.
* Monitor and manage staff sickness/absence, identifying stress symptoms and addressing them per HR policies.
* Lead the education and assessment of nursing staff and pre‑ and post‑registration students, ensuring a suitable learning environment.
* Ensure staff education meets National Cancer Standards and specialty requirements.
* Promote a positive learning environment within the unit, in conjunction with the Matron.
* Conduct regular performance reviews of staff, setting clear and achievable objectives.
Skills & Experience
* Registered Nurse qualification.
* Experience caring for patients with cancer.
* Desirable: completion of a nationally recognised Systemic Anti‑Cancer Therapy course.
