Bar Manager YHA Ambleside Permanent, flexible contract 25 - 42.5 hours per week £13.13 per hour (applies to all, including those under the age of 21) Staff accommodation is available at a rate of £69.83 per week We are looking for an experienced Bar Manager to lead our front-of-house operations and deliver an unforgettable guest experience. Located on the stunning shores of Lake Windermere, YHA Ambleside is a vibrant 245 bed hostel just a short walk from Ambleside. The Bar Manager works alongside the wider hostel team and you'll collaborate with colleagues to create a warm, welcoming environment for both guests and staff. In this role, you’ll manage the day-to-day operations of the restaurant, train and empower the team to provide exceptional customer service, and foster a positive, energetic work culture. You will also play a key role in the business’s growth by coordinating events, collaborating with the Catering Manager, and elevating the bar’s presence. What will you be doing as a Bar Manager? We are a friendly team and will provide the training required for you to undertake the role. However, there is plenty for you to get stuck into from day one, including: Guiding and supporting team members working in all areas of the hostel, fostering a collaborative and inclusive work environment. Using our systems for efficient guest check-ins and check-outs, food and beverage sales and service and other management functions. Carrying out housekeeping duties, ensuring a comfortable, clean environment for all visitors. Assisting in the preparation of food and serving food and drinks with genuine warmth, hospitality, and pride that will influence in more sales. Deputising for the Hostel/Deputy Manager, managing the daily hostel operation in their absence. What Skills and Experience do you need to be a Bar Manager? Our Bar Managers are responsible for the line management of the teams within their own hostels, along with the management of occasional volunteers. They are also responsible for managing the operational budget and the safeguarding of all guests. To provide this service we are looking for candidates who have: Experience of working face-to-face with customers Experience in hospitality or customer service, including the management and delivery of a quality service Experience of managing a team – experience of leading others, providing guidance to members of your team (desirable) Food safety level 2 and APLH level 2 qualifications (desirable) Ability to manage varying pressures, include peaks in workload demands – can prioritise, able to deal with conflicting duties Basic IT skills (ideally Microsoft Office) – able to use Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel Knowledge and understanding of the core purpose of YHA – what YHA does and how we do it Demonstration of our HEART values – they’re part of everything we do, and we look for people who bring them to life in their everyday work For more information about the role and the skills and experience required, please refer to the job description.
