Job Description
This is a 1 year FTC (subject to extension).We are recruiting a Functional Skills Tutor to support young people aged 16–24 who are currently NEET (Not in Education, Employment or Training) across the London Borough of Havering area, with delivery primarily based in Romford.This role focuses on helping young people who may face barriers to education, including SEN, low confidence, previous disengagement from school, or challenging personal circumstances.As a tutor, you will play a key role in re-engaging learners with education, helping them build confidence and achieve Functional Skills Maths and English from Entry Level 3 to Level 2.The RoleYou will deliver small group sessions (typically 2–6 learners) designed to provide a supportive and personalised learning environment.Your focus will be on:
* Delivering Functional Skills Maths and English (Entry Level 3 – Level 2)
* Supporting young people who are NEET to re-engage with learning
* Adapting teaching approaches for learners with additional needs or barriers
* Building confidence, motivation and progression pathways
* Monitoring learner progress and maintaining accurate records
You will work closely with the wider education and support team to ensure learners receive the guidance they need to move towards further education, training or employment.Working HoursMonday – Friday | 9:00am – 5:00pmTeaching sessions usually take place during the day, with additional time allocated for:
* Lesson planning
* Learner support
* Progress tracking and administration

What We’re Looking For
* Experience delivering or supporting Functional Skills Maths and/or English
* Experience working with young people facing barriers to education
* Understanding of NEET learners or disengaged young people
* Strong communication and relationship-building skills
* A passion for supporting young people to rebuild confidence and achieve their goals
A teaching qualification is desirable, but support may be available to gain a Level 3 teaching qualification if you do not currently hold one.Contract1 Year Fixed-Term ContractInterview ProcessThe interview process will consist of:
