Join Audit Scotland as a Graduate Trainee Auditor in 2026. This role is not eligible for skilled worker sponsorship due to Home Office requirements. Candidates must demonstrate that they have the right to live and work in the UK from the start of the program. The start date for this vacancy will be October 2026.
Our Graduate Trainee Scheme includes financial support to become a qualified Chartered Accountant with ICAS, with a prestigious, internationally recognised qualification and involvement in varied auditing work for public bodies in Scotland. What matters you bring
You don’t need to be an accountancy graduate or have a specific honours grade to join. Trainees come from diverse backgrounds and study a range of subject areas. The important factors are strong analytical and people skills, commitment to studying for a professional qualification, and the ability to excel in a challenging role.
To be considered you will need the following skills and qualifications.
Qualifications
* Achieved or on track to achieve an honours degree (or equivalent) in any subject
* A minimum of National 5 Grade C or GCSE Grade 4/C (or equivalent) in Maths and English
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills
* Ability to work as part of a team and independently using your own initiative
* An interest in Audit Scotland and/or the public sector and the auditing/accountancy profession
* Sound analytical skills for gathering, interpreting and evaluating data
* Disciplined and organised with good project management skills
Stage and applying
Stage 1 — online verbal and numerical tests after the application closing date. Stage 2 — online simulation assessment. Stage 3 — final competency-based interview.

Work model and location
We operate a hybrid working environment with a mix of home, office, and client-site work. Trainee opportunities are available across Scotland in Edinburgh, Glasgow, Inverness and Aberdeen on a 54-month fixed-term contract.
