Autism Teaching Assistant Location: Sunderland Salary: £90–£110 per day Contract: Full-Time, Long-Term Start Date: Immediate Do you have the patience, empathy, and creativity to support pupils with autism in their learning journey? We’re looking for a compassionate Autism Teaching Assistant to join a specialist school in Sunderland. This setting supports children and young people with autism and associated needs, providing tailored education in a supportive and inclusive environment. Your role will include: Offering 1:1 and small group support to pupils with autism across the school day Assisting with communication strategies, sensory regulation, and social interaction Supporting pupils in accessing the curriculum and achieving personal goals Working closely with teachers, therapists, and parents to provide consistency and care What we’re looking for: Experience supporting pupils with autism, either in schools or alternative settings Knowledge of communication systems such as PECS, Makaton, or visual supports (desirable) A patient, calm approach with a genuine passion for supporting SEND learners Flexibility, creativity, and resilience in a fast-paced specialist setting Why join Protocol Education?
