Job summary As a Vessel Traffic Services Officer (VTSO) you will ensure the safety of navigation and the protection of the environment within the limits of the Port of Dover in accordance with the requirements of the Port Marine Safety Code. You will monitor and regulate the movement of all vessels within the port and its jurisdiction and advise masters/pilots of passing vessels or other movements during their passage. Allocate berths to vessels entering or manoeuvring within the port in accordance with schedules where pre-planned. Arranging in conjunction with the Duty Harbour Master the allocation of berths for unscheduled arrivals including lay-by's for repairs, de-storing etc. The Port Operates 365 days per year, and you will be required to work a shift pattern of days and nights averaging 42hr week. Skills and Qualifications Valid CO103/1 certificate is required, however training will be provided and you must be able to achieve this certification Previous experience within VTS or comparable industry or Officer of the Watch as defined by STCW. Previous experience as a senior rating or above in the Armed Forces or in a command-and-control role. Demonstratable experience in operational management and planning. Ability to operate and interpret VTS systems, including RADAR, AIS, CCTV and communications systems. Proficient with MS Office Analytical and technical aptitude and be able to demonstrate good spatial awareness.
