A Senior/Principal Electrical Engineer is sought to join a market-leading, innovative Industrial and Off-Road Systems company with nearly 100 years of history. The company is a leading UK supplier with significant growth prospects, making this an excellent time to join. The role reports to the Engineering Director and involves leading a small but expanding team working on designs for industrial systems and off-road products for the rail and mining sectors. These products vary in size and are powered by diesel, electric, battery, or hybrid technologies. This position offers the opportunity to work closely with all employees, including directors, engineers, and support staff.
Criteria
1. Degree in a related subject (BEng, BSc), such as Electrical or Control Systems Engineering.
2. Experience in an engineering and product design environment.
3. Ability to design electrical products, including 2D schematic and wiring diagrams.
4. Ideally IEC 61508 Certified.
5. Knowledge of Simulink and Stateflow modeling.
6. Some knowledge of FPGA Toolsets is preferred.
7. LV/HV electrical experience up to 2,000 Volts DC.
8. Knowledge of CANbus protocols, J1939-71 and J1939-76, and CANopen safety.
9. Experience with machine functional safety standards EN 61508 and EN ISO 13849.
10. Ability to update existing designs collaboratively with mechanical engineers.
11. Support the technical author as needed.
12. Must be commutable to the South Derby area.
Key Responsibilities and Experience
1. Experience working with ERP systems (e.g., Microsoft NAV).
2. Knowledge of Bills of Materials.
3. Proficiency with 2D CAD software for schematics (preferably AutoCAD Electrical).
4. Understanding of AC and DC power systems, generator control, or similar.
5. Support production with technical inquiries.
6. Experience with PLC software and CANbus control systems.
7. Electrical component selection expertise.
8. Experience in Off-Road, Rail, EV, or Heavy Platform Product Design is preferred.
9. Some knowledge of 3D CAD software (preferably Autodesk Inventor).
Hours and Holidays
37 hours/week with flexible working options. Working hours are 7:30 - 16:00 Monday to Thursday and 7:30 - 12:30 on Friday. 25 days of holiday plus 8 statutory holidays.
