Independent Chair: Children’s Services Improvement Board
* £800 per day; up to 20 days per annum
* Two-year contract
BE A CHAMPION FOR READING’S CHILDREN
Autumn 2025 will see the management of Children’s Services return to the direct control of Reading Council, ensuring more direct control of vital provision, simplified governance arrangements, and better integration with other council services. It marks a new chapter with renewed emphasis and momentum on embedding sustainable improvement in our services. And we are looking for expert leadership, support and challenge to bring objective and professional insight to our improvement programme, putting the voices of children, their families and carers at the heart of everything we do.
Chairing the Children’s Services Improvement Board, you’ll provide independent scrutiny, constructive challenge, advice and assurance on our progress. It’s a leadership role that demands expert professional knowledge of statutory children’s services and associated policy and legislation; an understanding of current and emerging demand drivers approaches to manage these; and a track record of leading high-performing services to children and young people in your career to date.
It is anticipated that the time requirement for this role will be up to 20 days per annum, and the appointment is for an initial period of two years.
Visit www.team-reading.co.uk to find out more or contact Steve Guest or Karishma Vakta-Smith at Solace in Business on 020 7976 3311 for a confidential discussion.
Closing date: 4th August.
