Offer description

Why LNER?

We go beyond. For everyone. Our vision is to be the most loved, progressive and responsible way to travel for generations to come. Now we're looking for the people who can deliver this, every day.

Since we took over on the East Coast mainline, we've been changing the face of rail travel. Our new Azuma train has brought faster journey times, more space and greater reliability. Our exciting plans to embrace new ideas, experiences, backgrounds and ambitions make this the ideal time to join.

Bringing passion. Being bold. Always caring. Owning it. They're the values that make us LNER.

Are you on board?

LNER are looking for a confident and enthusiastic individual with interest, skills, and experience in transport planning, modelling, and analysis to join our Business Strategy team within the Commercial directorate. You'll play a key role in maximising LNER's revenue by identifying and realising opportunities to optimise the timetable and train plan to improve commercial performance.

Working closely with the Senior Revenue Strategy Manager, you'll take ownership of impact assessments and scenario modelling for timetable changes, engineering works, and special events. Using data‑led analysis, you'll deliver insights to develop business cases and recommendations that drive strategic decisions, align with company‑wide objectives, and support LNER's commercial growth.

You’ll be a strong team player, able to communicate effectively with colleagues and stakeholders across the business. Comfortable with numbers and confident handling datasets (particularly in Excel), you'll have a desire to learn and develop your analytical, rail transport modelling, and reporting skills — all while contributing to the success of one of Britain's leading train operating companies.

Within this role you’ll also be involved in;

* Support the optimisation of LNER's long‑term timetable to enhance competitiveness and customer offer.
* Develop skills in passenger demand and revenue forecasting tools (e.g. MOIRA 2.2) to inform strategic planning decisions.
* Contribute to business cases for train service and fleet developments, presenting analysis to senior stakeholders and government partners.
* Collaborate with Operational Planning to minimise revenue and customer impacts from engineering works and planned disruption.
* Coordinate with Operational Planners and Rail Replacement providers to ensure suitable contingency services during engineering possessions.
* Sharing and maintaining information on planned engineering disruption, working with internal teams to ensure commercial alignment and deliver clear public communications.
* Support event planning and management by identifying commercial opportunities and managing demand during major events.
* Providing analytical insights and modelling to support the wider Business Strategy Team and deputise for senior colleagues when required.
* Keeping up to date with industry best practice in passenger demand and revenue forecasting; potentially getting involved with the Passenger Demand And Forecasting research.

What you’ll need:

* Demonstratable experience or education ideally in Transport Planning, Geography, Economics, Business, Mathematics, Statistics, or a related field.
* Strong analytical and numerical skills, confident working with large datasets and complex models.
* An understanding of transport timetables and ideally experience within the rail industry.
* An interest in how timetable design, integration and demand management drives commercial performance.
* Knowledge or experience of transport demand and revenue modelling (e.g. MOIRA 1/2, ORCATS, LENNON) and familiarity with industry guidance such as PDFH.
* Strategic awareness of the UK rail industry, including industry systems, databases, planning processes and commercial drivers.
* Excellent communication skills — able to present complex analysis clearly and persuasively to colleagues and senior stakeholders.
* Collaborative team player with strong organisational skills and the ability to manage your own workloads and competing priorities to meet deadlines.
* Enthusiastic, curious, and eager to learn and develop in a fast‑paced, data‑led environment.
* An ability to read complex reports and documentation, able to assimilate information efficiently.
* Confident working across teams to influence decisions and drive commercial outcomes.

What you’ll get:

* Free travel on LNER + 75% off other companies' tickets (for you & dependents)
* Discounted international train tickets (after one year's service)
* 50% discount on LNER tickets for friends & family
* Generous pension scheme
* Annual cycle to work schemes
* Discount, savings and cashback scheme from top retailers
* Health & wellbeing schemes and discounts
* Host of training opportunities to help further your career
* Rewards & awards to recognise when you shine

Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) Check

If you are successful in your application and are new to the business, we will undertake a basic DBS check as part of our pre‑employment checks. This only happens once we have conditionally offered you the job. Here we check for any unspent convictions and conditional cautions under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (ROA) 1974. If there is evidence of an unspent conviction or conditional caution, the details of these are reviewed internally by a cross‑functional panel on a case‑by‑case basis before a final offer of employment is issued. This however may result in any offer being withdrawn. Further information on how we collect and use this data is available on our privacy notice.

Medical screening

We're a safety conscious business so for all roles you'll need to pass a medical screening and a drugs and alcohol test before we send you an unconditional job offer. For our safety critical roles, you'll also need to have a safety critical medical. Our friendly, in‑house Health and Wellbeing team will book a time and place to suit you. The sooner, the better, so please be flexible with your availability. Once your medical gets the thumbs up, we'll finalise any last details and look forward to you joining our team.
