Job Summary
We’re looking for an experienced Mechanic to join our Engineering team at the busy Sharston depot. Reporting directly to the Engineering Manager – Sam Avison, you will receive all the support needed to succeed.
Hours
Rotating shift, 4 working days per week over 7 days (including weekends)
Main Responsibilities
* Responsible for routine inspection and maintenance of company vehicles according to company procedures and DVSA requirements.
* Diagnose faults using road tests, laptop diagnostic software, pressure and brake gauges, rolling roads, multimeters, etc. Refer to Engineering Manager/Assistant Engineering Manager for repairs when necessary.
* Undertake mechanical, electrical, and body repairs; road test vehicles upon completion.
* Follow safe working practices as per Metroline Health and Safety policies.
* Train and mentor apprentices and new recruits.
* Stay updated on environmental and technical developments.
* Ensure vehicle availability meets operational needs and standards set by the Company and DVSA.
* Supervise staff and contractors to maintain vehicle presentation and standards.
* Ensure compliance with Health and Safety at Work Act, Metroline policies, and other legislation.
* Maintain accurate documentation and records for regulatory compliance.
* Manage delivery of tyres, stores, lubricants, fuels, and ensure premises and stores security.

Essential Criteria
* Experience with vehicle bodywork repairs and maintenance, ideally on HGV, PCV, or buses.
* Ability to interpret technical manuals, wiring diagrams, and schematics.
* Understanding of risk assessments, Health and Safety practices, and Department of Transport standards.
* Knowledge of manual handling regulations.
* Computer literacy with relevant software.
* Experience in fault analysis and troubleshooting.
* Basic knowledge of automotive electrics and bus bodywork.
Desirable Criteria
* Ability to obtain a PCV licence.
Hours of Work
Permanent contract, 38 hours per week, 4 days per week, with flexibility for weekends and operational needs.
