A leading UK main contractor is seeking an experienced Design Manager to join its growing team and support the delivery of major projects across a diverse portfolio. With a strong pipeline of work and several new schemes entering pre‑construction, this is an excellent opportunity for a Design Manager looking to take ownership of complex, high‑profile projects within a well‑structured and collaborative environment.
The Role
As Design Manager, you will play a key role in managing the design process from early concept through to technical delivery, ensuring buildability, programme alignment and commercial efficiency. Responsibilities include:
* Leading design coordination across architectural, structural and MEP disciplines
* Managing consultant teams and ensuring timely delivery of design information
* Driving buildability, value engineering and technical compliance
* Supporting pre‑construction, tendering and client presentations
* Managing design risk, change control and technical queries
* Ensuring design outputs align with programme, cost plans and quality standards
* Working closely with project, commercial and site teams throughout delivery
About You
We are keen to speak with Design Managers who bring:
* Experience working for a main contractor or design‑and‑build environment
* Strong understanding of construction methodology, sequencing and buildability
* Proven ability to manage multidisciplinary design teams
* Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
* Experience across commercial, industrial, education, healthcare or mixed‑use projects
* A proactive, solutions‑focused approach with strong technical awareness
