TXM Recruit are supporting a leading UK rail freight operator in their search for a Diesel Locomotive Production Support Engineer to join their Engineering Team. This is a great opportunity to play a key role in supporting and improving the performance, safety, and reliability of a major diesel locomotive fleet.
About the Role
As a Diesel Loco Production Support Engineer, you will provide technical support across a large locomotive fleet, working closely with the Fleet Engineer to enhance fleet performance and develop improvements to maintenance policies. You will analyse technical performance data, drive engineering improvements, and support operational teams to ensure fleet reliability is maximised.
The role includes an on-call requirement to provide technical advice and attend mainline incidents when necessary.
What We're Looking For
* Engineering experience in Traction & Rolling Stock or similar heavy engineering sectors
* Understanding of rail-connected terminal operations
* Minimum HNC (or equivalent) in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering
* Foundation Safety Management qualification
* Chartered Engineer status is desirable but not essential
Key Responsibilities
* Act as a safety leader, ensuring all engineering activities are completed professionally and safely
* Monitor fleet reliability, safety, and financial performance, identifying adverse trends in a timely manner
* Develop engineering improvements in line with change management processes
* Support the creation of an Asset Management Plan for the locomotive fleet
* Review and develop maintenance specifications in line with industry standards
* Develop and implement fleet modification projects
* Produce performance reports for Return of Service Experience processes
* Identify deficiencies and recommend corrective actions in maintenance, materials, or design
* Lead technical projects to improve reliability and reduce maintenance costs
* Provide on-call technical support and attend site incidents when required
