Our in-house Environment and Planning Services team provides a wide range of services to facilitate project delivery for engineering, construction and operational projects.

Our focus is to ensure legal compliance and environmental best practice are followed, and planning and environmental legislation and the company's environmental policy are met in the development and maintenance of assets.

We welcome applications from those looking to work part-time or full-time in this role.

This role offers a hybrid of office and home working with some site visits (the option to work part of your week from home becomes available after completion of an initial training period). You will need to be located within a commutable distance from our Claverton Down, Bath office as being able to work collaboratively with our business stakeholders and project teams is key to this role.

What you'll do

Your role as an Assistant Environment Adviser is essential to support the delivery of the capital programme.

You will:

This will include advising on environmental issues with support from technical specialists (for example, archaeology, noise, odour, contaminated land, flood risk, landscape assessment, and pollution prevention)
* assist with reviewing permitted development/planning permission requirements and environmental constraints for a range of water supply, sewerage and sewage treatment projects
* carry out external consultation and liaison and prepare consent applications, including planning applications and environmental permits
* produce supporting reports where required, as well as preparing construction environmental management plans
* assist with the coordination of specialist environmental survey and assessment work within project deadlines to support consent applications, including managing specialist sub-contractors where necessary
* provide environmental information and guidance to colleagues about environmental consents, issues, timescales and costs at all stages of the project, ensuring we maintain legal compliance.

The role provides development opportunities, including a pathway to obtaining professional membership to an environmental institution.

What you'll need

We are looking for an enthusiastic individual with a keen interest in the environment.

In addition, you will have:

* a degree in environmental science or a similar related subject, eg, geography
* a minimum of two years of similar project experience in a planning/environmental role
* some experience preparing planning applications and/or environmental permits, including the preparation of supporting environmental information
* an understanding of UK EIA and planning legislation
* excellent communication/negotiation skills with colleagues, technical specialists, external organisations and the public
* a high level of organisational skills and the ability to manage your own projects, workload and deadlines
* good IT skills
* a full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle to use and insure for business purposes to attend site visits.

It would also be beneficial if you have:

* an understanding of sewage and water treatment processes
* knowledge of environmental good practices during construction, including pollution prevention planning
* GIS skills
* an awareness of ISO14001 Environmental Management Systems
* good presentation/public speaking skills.

* The opportunity to buy up to ten days' holiday and sell up to five every year.
* A healthcare package that allows you to claim back healthcare costs.
* Life assurance of up to eight times your salary.
* A new electric car in exchange for part of your gross salary, subject to conditions.
* Cashback and discounts from more than 3,000 retailers.
