🚀 Controls Technician

📍 Location: Primarily Home-Based with occasional travel to our asset sites.
💰 Salary: £44,984 per annum plus additional pay for on call rota
🕒 Contract Type: Full-Time, Permanent – with on call duties every other week

A Controls Technician is required for a key role in our Energy & Controls Centre (ECC), which forms part of the O&M function of the UK&I business.

The primary purpose of the role is to ensure the optimal efficiency and performance of assets installed at CBS and customer sites, maximising value and returns for both customers and the business in line with contractual obligations. Assets supported by the role may include Combined Heat and Power (CHP) units, heating and hot water systems and associated Operational Technology (OT) controllers, devices and systems.

The role would suit a candidate who possesses the skills necessary to effectively interpret data from multiple sources, identify anomalies, then define and implement solutions.

What You’ll Be Doing

1. Monitoring CBS and customer assets to maximise efficiency in line with contractual terms
2. Compliance with Environmental, Health, Safety, Security and Quality Standards
3. Compliance with client’s standards
4. Being the subject matter expert of at least one of the core asset types deployed by CBS
5. Providing 2nd line support for asset and connectivity related issues.
6. OT system administration including asset integration, user management and report generation.
7. OT connectivity management and maintenance, ensuring connection availability and compliance with cyber security standards.
8. Knowledge sharing with internal and external stakeholders propagating best practice in asset monitoring and operation.
9. Tracking KPI variance, analysis and proactive identification of issues affecting the performance.
10. Conducting investigations into under-performance alongside the colleagues within the O&M, engineering and technology departments.
11. Managing and prioritising workload in line with relevant contractual obligations
12. Providing professional, concise communications to a variety of internal and external customers and stakeholders
13. Maintaining accurate records of all tasks undertaken
14. Producing reports detailing asset availability and performance patterns
15. Supporting innovation projects and new developments
16. Adhering to all applicable company policies, procedures and business ethics codes
17. Representing and acting as an ambassador for the company in a professional and confidence-inspiring manner.

Who You’ll Work With

18. Daily collaboration with the Energy & Controls Centre (ECC) team and wider O&M department.

19. Cross-functional engagement with engineering, technology, and sales teams.

20. Regular communication with internal and external customers.

21. Interaction with senior stakeholders during monthly business reviews.

What You’ll Bring:

Experience:

22. Operational management experience across major plant, including CHP, boilers, LTHW services, pumping systems, chillers, and chilled water systems
23. Experience with BMS interfaces, performance monitoring and OT systems
24. Mechanical and Electrical (M&E) engineering background
25. Familiarity with energy metering systems
26. Experience working on live operational sites with critical systems requiring high resilience
27. Ability to interpret mechanical and electrical schematics
28. Strong ability to prioritise work based on risk, asset criticality, and business impact
29. Effective communication skills with both technical and non‑technical stakeholders

Skills & Knowledge:

30. Understanding of Operational Technology /IT integration and networking.

31. Awareness of OT cyber security threats and mitigation strategies.

32. Ability to interpret mechanical and electrical schematics.

33. Strong communication skills for engaging with diverse stakeholders.

Education (Beneficial):

34. ONC, HNC, or degree in electrical/electronic/mechanical engineering or a related discipline, accredited by the relevant engineering institution
