Due to increased work and succession planning, SCS is seeking an experienced Principal Control Systems Engineer who specialises in control and automation, takes ownership of their work and has pride in high-quality output.

Role
The role requires a proficient Principal Control Systems Engineer. The role will suit electrical design engineers, control system engineers or automation engineers who can take a customer specification from enquiry through to a complete bill of materials and working diagrams for production and testing teams. This role technical leads the engineering team and provides experience-driven input and guidance, making decisions based on best practices, regulations, standards and customer preferences. It is a stable position within a key function of the business, acting as the customer focal point from concept to completion. The role combines industrial electrical engineering, control system design and project management, suitable for an experienced engineer who enjoys variety and applying engineering principles to solve technical solutions.
Responsibilities
* Lead the engineering team and provide engineering input and guidance as required.
* Capture and interpret customer requirements and translate them into BOMs, schematics, layouts and drawings for production and testing teams.
* Ensure engineering output is technically and commercially robust, satisfies customer requirements and is delivered on time.
* Draft and issue quotes to customers; liaise with customers as the point of contact for quotes and projects.
* Drafting/drawing of engineering drawings (schematics, layouts, harnesses).
* Create and control engineering documentation, calculations, assessments, manuals, specifications, reports and certifications as required.
* Coordinate with production, site teams and other engineers to meet workload and project deadlines.
* Site visits/inspections for projects or upgrades as required; provide commissioning assistance and remote site support.
* Quality assure work through peer reviews and maintain up-to-date knowledge and skills.
* Contribute to continuous improvement with expertise and experience.
* Ensure safe low voltage control system designs and BOM management.
* Manage and prioritise engineering workload to meet deadlines and company requirements.
Experience & Qualifications
* Experience of leading an engineering team and working well within an engineering team.
* Minimum of 10 years in industrial electrical control system design, including BOM management.
* Minimum of 5 years in industrial control panels, ideally heavy-industrial machinery.
* Minimum of 10 years with an electrical CAD package, drafting/drawing.
* Minimum of 10 years in a customer contact role and producing quotes.
* Able to specify components to meet a design; read and interpret electrical schematics and diagrams.
* Experience creating technical and engineering documentation and technical writing.
* Machinery control system understanding; ability to work with wiremen, commissioning engineers, site engineers, management and wider team.
* IT literate (MS365, Outlook, Word, Excel).
* Level 3 engineering or technical qualification or relevant experience.
* Desirable/Advantageous: Professionally registered with the Engineering Council as IEng or CEng; PLC software experience; functional safety experience/qualification; mechanical engineering understanding; HNC/degree in Electrical Engineering or similar.

* Competitive salary depending on experience (£40-60k).
