Job Title: School Principal / Head of Service – SEN School (Blandford Forum)
Location: Blandford Forum, Dorset
Contract Type: Full Time, Permanent
Salary: Up to £90,000 per year (depending on experience) performance-related bonuses management incentive plan
Overview
A well-established specialist SEN day and residential school in Blandford Forum is seeking a committed and visionary School Principal / Head of Service. This is a senior leadership role responsible for both the educational and residential arms of the school, with the successful candidate acting as the Responsible Individual (RI) for two on-site children’s homes.
Set within 28 acres of countryside, the school supports children and young people with autism and complex needs through a differentiated curriculum and 24-hour integrated care.
This is a unique opportunity to shape and deliver the long-term strategy of a provision with strong foundations and dedicated teams, and to take the school from ‘Good’ to ‘Outstanding’.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead the strategic direction and day-to-day operations of both education and residential services
* Act as the Responsible Individual (RI) for two registered children’s homes
* Drive quality improvement and ensure compliance with Children’s Homes Regulations and Independent School Standards
* Build effective, collaborative relationships with staff, families, external professionals and regulatory bodies
* Provide inspiring leadership that promotes inclusion, safeguarding, high expectations and continuous development
Candidate Profile
* Proven leadership experience within SEN education and/or children’s residential care
* Strong knowledge of regulatory frameworks (Children’s Homes Regulations and Independent School Standards)
* Ability to lead large multidisciplinary teams with confidence and clarity
* Strategic thinker with a proactive, hands-on leadership style
* Committed to improving outcomes for children and young people with complex needs
Desirable Qualifications
* NPQH or Principals Qualifying Programme
* Degree-level teaching qualification, Social Work qualification, or equivalent
* Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management for Residential Children’s Services (or equivalent)
* Experience in a Registered Manager or RI role
* NVQ Level 4 or 5 in Care or Leadership
* Full UK driving licence

This specialist day and 52-week residential school offers education and care to children and young people with autism and additional complex needs. Facilities on-site include a swimming pool, sports hall, theatre, climbing wall, stables, and multiple safe play areas.
