Consultant in Obstetrics & Gynaecology

A Consultant post is available in the Obstetrics and Gynaecology department at Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. The role is a general Obstetrics and Gynaecology position with a requirement to participate in both on‑call rotations (total on‑call 1:11 with an additional gynae hot week 1:12) and to cover the labour ward.
Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will undertake ante‑natal clinics, general gynaecology clinics (including urgent and 2‑week rule), and support outpatient hysteroscopy and PMB services. In addition, the candidate will be allocated operating sessions for benign gynaecology and will be expected to manage teaching and governance roles to further develop the department.

The Trust records approximately 4,500 births annually and operates a level three neonatal unit. We offer a range of maternity services, including Bluebell and Rainbow clinics, high‑risk pregnancy care and a Maternal Medicine Centre, as well as teaching opportunities for medical students.
Our gynaecology service covers benign gynaecology, early pregnancy, endometriosis, urogynaecology, ambulatory care, menopause, paediatric and endocrine disorders, vulval conditions and termination of pregnancy.
Person Specification
Qualifications
* Full GMC Registration and Licence to Practice
* MBBS or equivalent
* Entered on the Specialist Register (or entry within 6 months)
* ATSM in Advanced Labour Ward Practice
* ATSM in Gynaecological Sub‑Specialism (e.g., BAS)
* Teaching Qualification (e.g., PG Cert)
* Medical leadership experience
Experience and Skills
* Experience working within the NHS
* Ability to manage common obstetric and gynaecological emergencies
* Teaching experience (undergraduate and postgraduate)
* Intermediate Gynaecological Scan competency
