Contract Senior Java Engineer
Overview
Ocho is partnering with a global technology organisation to hire a Contract Senior Java Engineer to join a high-performing engineering team working on large-scale enterprise platforms within a real-time data environment.
This is an opportunity to work on complex, business-critical systems while gaining exposure to modern cloud technologies, DevOps tooling and large-scale distributed architectures. The organisation is investing heavily in cloud transformation, automation and platform modernisation, making this an exciting time to join the team.
We have placed multiple engineers into this organisation over the years and they have built a strong reputation for delivering world-class engineering from their Belfast hub.
You'll work alongside experienced engineers in an environment that encourages innovation, ownership and continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities
* Design, build and maintain scalable Java applications
* Develop new features and enhancements across enterprise platforms
* Contribute to architecture, resilience and system design discussions
* Work with cloud-native technologies and containerised environments
* Participate in CI/CD pipeline development and automation initiatives
* Collaborate closely with engineering teams to troubleshoot and improve production systems
* Mentor engineers and contribute to engineering best practices
* Research and evaluate new technologies and tooling
Person We Are Looking For
* Strong commercial experience with Java development
* Experience building scalable backend or distributed systems
* Exposure to cloud environments and modern engineering practices
* Strong understanding of clean code, testing and maintainability
* Experience working with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps tooling
* Comfortable working in Agile, collaborative engineering environments
* Strong communication and problem-solving skills
Desirable Experience
* Experience with Kubernetes, Docker or containerised platforms
* Exposure to Google Cloud Platform or other cloud providers
* Knowledge of automation tooling such as Jenkins or Argo
* Experience within financial services or real-time data environments
* Familiarity with Atlassian tools such as Jira and Confluence
