Job Description

At Aurora Boveridge College and Beeches School, we support children and young people aged 11–25 with autism and associated needs to achieve positive outcomes in education, independence and life beyond education. By working closely with families, education and therapy teams, we create a consistent, supportive environment where every young person can thrive.

We're looking for a compassionate and proactive Family Support Officer to join our team and play a key role in supporting our students and their families.

The Role

As a Family Support Officer, you'll act as a vital link between home, education, care and external services. You'll support a defined cohort of students and their families, providing early help, safeguarding and targeted support to help them stay safe, engaged and able to progress.

You'll work closely with the Designated Safeguarding Lead, pastoral and therapy teams to deliver a joined-up, consistent approach that puts the child or young person at the centre of everything.

What You'll Be Doing

* Building strong, trusting relationships with students and their families, acting as a consistent point of contact between home and the education setting
* Supporting families to understand and implement strategies around routines, emotional regulation and behaviour, using a calm and non-judgemental approach
* Working closely with the DSL to identify and respond to safeguarding concerns, ensuring all processes are followed appropriately
* Supporting students who may be at risk of disengagement or exclusion, using relationship-based approaches and consistent routines
* Monitoring attendance and working with families to understand and remove barriers, creating personalised plans to support re-engagement
* Liaising with external agencies such as social care, CAMHS and local authorities to ensure support is coordinated and consistent
* Leading or contributing to meetings (such as Team Around the Family), ensuring the voice of the young person is heard

About You

We're looking for someone who is passionate about supporting young people and families, and who brings empathy, resilience and a solution-focused mindset.

You will have:

* A relevant qualification (or willingness to work towards a Level 3 in working with children and young people)
* Experience working with children and young people with SEND, particularly autism and/or SEMH needs
* A good understanding of safeguarding and child protection processes
* Experience supporting families in complex or challenging situations
* Strong communication skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with families, colleagues and external professionals
* A calm, adaptable approach, with the ability to respond positively in challenging situations
* A full UK driving licence
