We are delighted to be working in partnership with this successful family-owned house builder as they look to appoint a Trainee Estimator to their team based in Dunfermline. With a number of recent contract awards, this business has a strong pipeline of work through 2025 and beyond and has ambition to capitalise on this and grow a greater market share. Working alongside their Senior Estimator with full training given, responsibilities will include: Assist with and understand the technical specifications and commercial terms and conditions provided by Clients. Liaise with Client / Commercial team to understand, influence and finalise technical requirements. Assist with the completion of prequalification documentation and returns. Contribute to the maintenance of a detailed subcontractor and supplier data base and develop relationships with supply chain partners. Help identify where a particular proposal is likely to require additional analysis, resources or site visits and work with the relevant team to coordinate this work. Liaise with Senior QS responsible for the project on generation of take offs for Bills of Quantities and assist in generation of quantities when required. Liaise with Senior QS responsible for the project on production of take offs for variations and value engineering proposals. Assist with the coordination of Tender preparation from acceptance of completed Bills of Quantities to Tender Settlement and subsequent submission of agreed proposals, including Elemental Specification, to the Client’s representative that meet functionality, quality, delivery and budget requirements. Adopt best practice principles in all Tenders and technical proposals. Ensure that the Company’s quality standards are embedded in all Tenders and proposals. Communicate clearly with Construction and Commercial teams both throughout and following completion of the Tender process. Assist with Client representatives re post Tender queries and variations where required. Provide cost information for site feasibility studies and appraisals. Establish and maintain long-term working relationships with Clients. Attend meetings as necessary (internal, client and subcontractor meetings). Skills sought include: The ability to understand and interpret technical data, including reading detailed design drawings. Ability to generate proposals and tender documentation to a high standard. Proactive approach to work and learning on the job. Ability to work under pressure to tight deadlines, and to see projects through to completion. Computer literate with good working knowledge of MS Office packages.
