Overview
Want to join us? As a Water Operative, you’ll be on the front lines of making sure Scotland’s water is totally, dependably pure. You will join on a full-time permanent basis with the requirement to participate in a standby rota.
Locations: Skye & Lochalsh (Geog)
Contract: Full time
Job ref: R10766
Most people don’t think too much about how clean water reaches their taps. Scottish Water does. In fact, it’s all we think about.
You’ll join an experienced team that really knows its water, helping to monitor and maintain the quality of water at our treatment works and pumping stations.
What you’ll do
* Operate the plant following our TOMS procedures, calibrating monitors, filters, tank levels and other equipment.
* Record water quality measurements and classify observations as either "exceptional" or "needs attention" across parameters such as pH, chlorine, aluminium and phosphate.
* Go beyond legal and regulatory expectations in ensuring water quality and safety.
* Undertake regular inspections of plants, reservoirs and dams as part of the standard routine.
* Handle risk assessments and maintain health and safety protocols.
* Take turns on the standby rota for out-of-hours cover as part of the team.
What you’ll bring
* Strong communication skills and the ability to work on your own with confidence.
* Comfort with new computer systems and adapting to changing technologies.
* Attention to detail to avoid inaccuracies in recordings and health and safety failures.
* Ability to spot trends, solve problems through initiative and with team support.
* Valid driving licence; a van will be provided.
* Nice-to-haves (not essential): knowledge of water treatment processes and distribution systems; mechanical maintenance experience.
* This role will be a Grade 4.
