Responsibilities
* Contribute to and coordinate the training of medical staff, hospital‑based optometrists and orthoptic staff within the Glaucoma service.
* Provide continuing patient care and oversee the proper functioning of the service, delegating and training staff as required.
* Manage day‑to‑day clinics, ensuring in/out‑patient services are covered during planned absences.
* Provide advice and support to clinicians in other services for shared‑care episodes.
* Contribute to the Medical Advisory Committee and serve on other hospital committees as required.
* Participate in clinical governance, audit, continuous professional development, and the Trust’s appraisal scheme.
Qualifications
* Essential:
* FRCOphth
* CCT or equivalent, or within six months of AAC
* Full GMC registration with licence to practice
* Clinical fellowship experience or equivalent
* High degree of surgical (if operating) and clinical skills
* Teaching at postgraduate and undergraduate levels
* Successful participation in audit and evidence of completed and published research; instigation of audit projects
* Effective written and verbal communication, interpersonal, leadership, and innovation skills
* Desirable:
* Experience supervising and supporting research
Additional Requirements
* Disclosure and Barring Service check required under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act.
* Certificate of sponsorship available for skilled worker applicants; criminal record certificate may be required for overseas experience.
* Applicants must hold current UK professional registration.
