Job Title: Senior Communications Officer (Constituency Engagements) Part Time
Working For: Alex Mayer MP (Dunstable and Leighton Buzzard)
Length of Contract: Permanent
In this post you will proactively organise Alex’s intensive programme of constituency activities.
This is a hands-on role. Day to day you’ll pick up the phone to line up constituency engagements. You will build great relationships with local organisations, schools, businesses, charities and more. Throughout you’ll show excellent political judgement.
You will need to be creative, dogged, well organised, highly committed and enjoy the challenges of working to multiple priorities whilst able to meet strict deadlines.
You will have a first-class understanding of news value and an appreciation of your audiences, drafting tailored copy.
Proactively identify constituency visits and engagements to align with the MP’s priorities
Co-ordinate constituency visit arrangements and complete all necessary follow ups
Draft press releases and columns for local, regional and national media
Liaise with, and build relationships with local media outlets and publications including Parish Newsletters across the constituency
Cultivate and sustain positive stakeholder relationships including representing the MP at some meetings
Understand local, regional and national issues
Use creativity in campaigns for local cut through
Assist with managing bulk mailings
Other tasks as required in a small busy office
Skills and experience
Confident in influencing, persuading and engaging people
A track-record of delivering results ideally in a news, public affairs or political setting
Proactive and organised
Take ownership of work
Results orientated
Able to adapt style and approach to suit different audiences and situations
A proven commitment to the aims of the Labour Party and the trade union movement.
