Your new role
The Barge Operator will support the Marine Operations Lead and Barge Supervisor for the safe operation of all HPC project marine equipment and transportation. To support other HPC activities, during any period of marine standby (such as other in or out of port heavy lift operations). The ideal candidate will be looking to expand their own knowledge of different elements of the heavy lift operational industry to support professional development or deepen understanding of barge and marine operations in Project heavy lift logistics context.
The Barge Operator is accountable for:
* Operations - Safely operate all equipment on Osprey barges (including but not limited to – ballast pump operation, winch operation, mooring, deck layout management etc).
* and Slinging – Assist rigging (lashing and securing) of equipment during barge & vessel load outs / load-ins and perform slinger/signalling duties during marine operations in accordance with engineering provided.
* Hot Works– Assist with preparation of mobilisation and demobilisation of deck spread and securing equipment to include grinding and other associated methods.
* Maintenance –Maintain, or arrange maintenance, of all barge equipment. Ensure barges are well maintained (always fit for service) and housekeeping performed to a high quality.
* Management Assistance – Support Marine Operations Lead & Barge Supervisor with management of the barges during operational phase or standby phases. Ensure positive relationships are developed and maintained across team.
* Osprey Operational Support – During standby phases, support onshore operations where required by project management (SPMT activities, lifting activities or transport activities).
What you’ll need to succeed
The successful candidate will have:
* and experience working in a port and/or marine environment
* and experience principally operating marine equipment in a tidal environment while supporting heavy-lift dumb cargo barge operations
* MHE, such as telehandlers, forklift trucks and MEWP’s
* and experience working with cranes and slinging/signalling loads
* use in heavy lift project environment.

* qualifications: RYA Sea Survival RYA First aid, CITB H&S Operators, A40 Slinger Signaller, NPORS Telehandler & Forklift, IPAF 3A & 3B
* level of English, both written and verbal

* driving licence
* to work in the UK
* to work on projects around South West England, specifically Hinkley Point C (role is full time in the South West initially)
* travel around UK and Europe
