This Principal Electrical Design Engineer will report to the Systems Design Manager and will work within the UKPN Services directorate based in our Gatwick office. You will be a permanent employee.
You will attract a salary of £94,904.00 plus business needs car and a bonus of 3%. This role can also offer blended working after probationary period (6 months) - 3 days in the office and 2 remote

Job purpose:
You will report to the Systems Design Manager. You will work as part of a diverse team, delivering design technical excellence across UKPN Services contracts portfolio to place UK Power Networks Services in the top tier for design and build of private assets on safety, customer service and efficiency.
You will be the UKPN Services technical lead with the responsibility for delivering designs for Gatwick Airport and other clients. You will ensure that UKPN Services produce high quality design solutions that comply with relevant legislation, client and UKPN Services standards. You will lead a team of engineers to produce a high level quality of design.
You will provide technical liaison with suppliers, and clients for creating new business and the successful delivery of projects. Work and act with autonomy, being self-supervising, reporting to Senior Management.
Principal accountabilities
Typical accountabilities for the Principal Engineer will include:
10. Develop, implement, and oversee the delivery of electrical infrastructure designs across the UKPN Services business, ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulations
11. Provide technical input to the team and into UKPN Services bids
12. Ensure that design solutions are robust to allow accurate tender submissions to be developed
13. Provide technical lead in developing business opportunities with relevant material and preparing proposals
14. Assess cost/benefit trade-off of technical solution and support the technical decision making processes
15. Identify areas for technological advancement whilst maintaining excellent engineering standards
16. Identify and deploy the technical skills, resource levels and systems to complete projects, including the engagement of external resources
17. Manage design engineers for the delivery of designs
Qualifications
18. Degree level or equivalent in engineering or science.
19. Excellent knowledge of power distribution, electrification, protection and control systems
20. Safety management qualification such as NEBOSH certificate or equivalent
21. Membership of a professional body such as the IET
22. Chartered Engineer or working towards achieving Chartership
23. Basic knowledge of project management
24. Experience as a senior engineer

26. Ensure safe working methods and systems are followed in the design
27. Accept personal responsibility to meet and fulfil all UKPNS Health and Safety requirements.
28. Mentor junior staff in all matters relating to Health & Safety aligned with their role.
29. Ensure all relevant H&S Policy principles are briefed as required and implemented.
30. Communicate H&S information within their organisation. Promote feedback on H&S matters.
31. Create a safe working environment for all staff and contractors supporting the business.
