First Line Manager Longtown Operations Location: Longtown Hours: Full time 42.5 hours per week Reporting to: Regional Operations Manager Salary: Competitive salary, based on experience. This is a fantastic opportunity to play a key role in ensuring our customers receive the highest standard of service, while supporting and developing a dedicated team of drivers. What Youll Be Doing: As a First Line Manager, youll be responsible for the day-to-day running of our operations based out of Longtown. Youll ensure that our Office and Driving Teams execute the daily plans efficiently and safely, using telematics systems and a continuous improvement mindset to drive performance. Key responsibilities include: Team Leadership & Communication Lead and manage operational teams with clear, timely, and effective communication. Ensure accurate start times, load details, and shift coverage are in place. Conduct daily briefings, return-to-work meetings, investigations, and disciplinary actions as needed. Operational Planning & Execution Allocate and manage daily resources to meet delivery and collection schedules. Respond to changes in customer demand by adjusting plans while maintaining profitability. Ensure service levels are met in collaboration with internal departments and customer expectations. Compliance & Safety Ensure full compliance with Working Time Directive (WTD) and driver hours legislation. Maintain legal compliance for vehicle roadworthiness, including defect reporting, servicing, and MOTs. Log and report all accidents, incidents, and near misses promptly and accurately. Performance Monitoring Collate and report on Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to support continuous improvement. Identify and implement opportunities to optimise resource use and improve efficiency. Employee Engagement & Support Foster a positive and engaged team environment. Address driver concerns and escalate issues to senior management as appropriate. Communicate operational changes that may impact drivers daily duties. Resource & Holiday Management Ensure adequate staffing levels and communicate any shortfalls to senior management. Manage driver holidays and ensure adequate shift coverage in line with operational requirements. What Were Looking For Experience in transport or logistics operations preferred. Previous management or supervisory experience essential. CPC in Transport management preferred. IOSH or equivalent Health & Safety certification preferred. Strong leadership and communication skills. Knowledge of transport legislation and compliance. Proficiency with telematics and transport management systems. A hands-on, solutions-focused approach with a passion for team development.
