3 month contract role with a Local Authority Job Summary: • The Independent Domestic Violence Advisor (IDVA) will provide high-quality, independent and trauma-informed support to victims of domestic abuse who are at risk of harm. The postholder will assess risk, develop safety plans, and deliver tailored interventions to safeguard adults, children and families. • Working within Barnet’s Violence Against Women & Girls (VAWG) service, the IDVA will support victims through criminal, civil and family justice processes while advocating for their needs across statutory and community services. • The role will contribute to the development and delivery of the Barnet Domestic Abuse Support Hub (BDASH) and work collaboratively with partner agencies to reduce risk and promote positive outcomes for victims and survivors. Key Duties/Accountabilities (Sample): • Provide emotional and practical support to victims of domestic abuse, including risk assessment using the DASH tool and safety planning. • Manage a caseload of domestic abuse cases, delivering tailored intervention plans based on assessed risk and need. • Support victims through criminal, civil and family court processes, including attending court and facilitating special measures where required. • Advocate on behalf of victims to ensure their voices are heard and their needs addressed across services. • Work collaboratively with partner agencies including housing, health, education, police and social care to provide coordinated support. • Participate in multi-agency forums such as MARAC, MAPPA and safeguarding meetings. • Facilitate access to accommodation, legal advice, health services and other specialist support services. • Undertake proactive casework including outreach visits within the community and home settings where appropriate. • Ensure safeguarding concerns relating to adults and children are identified and addressed promptly in line with statutory guidance. • Maintain accurate, confidential and up-to-date case records in compliance with GDPR and organisational policies. • Prepare written reports and present case information for court proceedings, professional meetings and safeguarding forums. • Contribute to service development, training delivery and institutional advocacy to improve responses to domestic abuse. Skills/Experience: • Level 3 accredited qualification supporting victims of domestic abuse (e.g. SafeLives IDVA training or equivalent). • Minimum of 2 years’ post-qualification experience supporting victims of domestic abuse. • Strong understanding of domestic abuse legislation and safeguarding frameworks including the Domestic Abuse Act 2021, Children Act 1989 and Care Act 2014. • Knowledge of criminal, civil and family justice processes relating to domestic abuse cases. • Experience using risk assessment tools such as DASH and developing safety plans. • Experience of working within multi-agency safeguarding environments. • Ability to manage complex caseloads and prioritise effectively. • Strong advocacy, communication and interpersonal skills. • Ability to work with victims in a trauma-informed and culturally sensitive manner. • Experience preparing professional reports and maintaining accurate case records. Additional Information: • Bi-Weekly Payments. • Hours: 36 hours per week. • £34.32 per hour Umbrella. • Enhanced DBS is required.
