Job Overview
Older Adult Consultant in the Rotherham South Community Mental Health Team. The successful applicant will be one of two consultants providing day to day medical support to the South Community Team in Rotherham. The base for this team is Swallownest Court in Rotherham with easy access to the M1 motorway. There is a Trust wide community review taking place from this year which will change the community teams’ function and bases to align with Neighbourhood working.
Main duties of the job
This is a 0.6 WTE community post; the post-holder will have responsibility for the Rotherham Older Adults South Community Mental Health Team and it is expected that clinical contact (DCC) will comprise 75% of the working week with the other 25% dedicated to administration, CPD, service development and teaching dependent on the special interests of the successful candidate (SPA).
Qualifications
* Full registration with the GMC
* Inclusion on the GMC Specialist Register for Old Age Adult Psychiatry or a trainee within six months of completing their CCT. Would consider a candidate with MRCPsych and AC approval
* MRC Psych or equivalent higher qualification.
* Higher Specialist Training in Adult Psychiatry (e.g. SpR scheme)
* MD, Management qualification, other professional qualification (e.g. CBT, PSI, CAT)
Experience
* Previous experience within Older Adult General Adult Psychiatry
* Experience of psychiatric practice in a range of settings.
* Experience of audit and an understanding of the principles of clinical governance
* Prior experience working as an old age Consultant in Adult Psychiatry.
* Evidence of development of special interest
* Proven commitment to improving the quality of clinical care
* Other special interest/expertise relevant to the post.
Knowledge
* Knowledge of research processes
* Committed to Continuing Professional Development
* Sound knowledge of NHS management structures and systems
Skills
* All applicants to have demonstrable skills in written and spoken English adequate to enable effective communication about medical topics with patients and colleagues demonstrated by one of the following: either undertaken undergraduate medical training in English; or have achieved the following scores in the academic IELTS in a single sitting within 24 months at time of application – Overall 7.5, Speaking 7.5, Reading 7.5, and Writing 7.5
* Clinical supervision experience/skills. The aptitude and potential to develop a leadership role within the service with special emphasis on leading on quality and clinical standards and engaging in service improvement
* Ability to undertake training/mentoring of medical staff in junior grades and enthusiasm for education.

* Approved or eligible for approval under Section 12(2) of MHA 1983
* Approved or eligible for Approved Clinician Status.
* Access to transport and the ability to travel within the required geographical area
