An exciting and challenging opportunity has arisen for an innovative and inspirational advanced clinical pharmacist to lead on education and training for the pharmacy department, working closely with the chief technician. The role involves coordinating the supervision and training of undergraduate pharmacy students, foundation and post-foundation pharmacists, and offers the opportunity to specialise in another clinical area.
Bronglais Hospital is a District General Hospital with around 130 beds, located in the seaside town of Aberystwyth. The pharmacy department employs approximately 30 staff and provides a range of medical specialities, including acute coronary care, respiratory, oncology, haematology, gastroenterology, endocrinology, acute stroke, paediatrics, maternity, general surgery and orthopaedics, a busy clinical decision unit and an emergency department.
Applicants must hold a Master of Pharmacy degree or equivalent and be registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC). A post‑graduate diploma in clinical pharmacy or equivalent experience or qualifications is required.
Work includes Emergency Duty Commitment (on‑call), working weekends and bank holidays as part of a rota. The post is full‑time, but part‑time and job‑share applications will be considered.
Responsibilities
As an advanced pharmacist, you will be responsible for coordinating and delivering a patient‑focused clinical pharmacy service within a specialism. This includes developing pharmacist‑led clinics, collaborating with the multidisciplinary team, monitoring financial expenditure, undertaking research and service improvement projects, providing dispensary cover, and conducting clinical checks of haematology and oncology prescriptions. Additionally, you will contribute to medicines optimisation and uphold high standards of patient care and safety.
Qualifications and Knowledge
* Registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council
* Postgraduate MSc or Diploma in area of practice or equivalent experience or qualifications
* Accredited supervisor for foundation or post‑foundation pharmacists
* Competent in aseptic preparation and dispensing of medicines (Leeds University) or equivalent, if the role includes aseptics
* Registered with the Association of Pharmacy Regulatory Bodies (QC) if the role includes aseptics
* Member of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society
* Ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post (Welsh level 1 or higher)
Experience
* Specialist knowledge of medicines management systems and processes in an integrated NHS setting
* Knowledge and experience of healthcare delivery
* Specialist knowledge of own field of practice gained through diploma‑level training and experience
* Demonstrated specialist knowledge in more than one field
* Experience in practice research
* Experience in training and educating pharmacy staff and other healthcare professionals
* Experience managing change and implementing service improvement initiatives
Other
* Ability to travel between sites in a timely manner
* Flexible approach to the needs of the service, including on‑call work, weekends and evenings
Language Requirements
* Welsh speaker (level 1) desirable; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.
