Diabetes Specialist Dietitian

Job Overview
Assist in the development of diabetes dietetics service for outpatients and occasionally inpatients. Deliver high‑quality, evidence‑based diabetes dietetic care, provide expert advice, and contribute to service needs identification. Educate and train health professionals and participate in structured diabetes education programmes. Work collaboratively with clinical colleagues to improve service quality, design integrated care pathways, conduct research and audits, produce protocols, and stay current with NICE guidelines and clinical governance.
Responsibilities
* Provide high‑quality, evidence‑based diabetes dietetic service for outpatients and occasional inpatients.
* Offer expert advice to carers, relatives, clinical practitioners, and peers.
* Identify and develop service needs.
* Educate and train other health professionals in all aspects of diabetes dietetics; act as an active educator on structured diabetes education programmes.
* Collaborate with clinical colleagues to develop services and improve quality of care, including design and implementation of integrated seamless care pathways between primary and secondary care.
* Conduct research and audits in own specialist area to demonstrate improvements in patient care.
* Participate in creation of protocols, procedures, and evidence‑based literature relating to all aspects of diabetes dietetics.
* Maintain awareness of clinical governance issues and review NICE guidelines.

Person Specification
* Registered with HCPC.
* BSc Degree or Postgraduate Diploma in Dietetics approved by the British Dietetic Association.
* Post‑graduate clinical experience in an acute setting (minimum 2 years).
* Experience working with a variety of clinical specialities and population groups.
* Experience developing and delivering group sessions and structured diabetes education.
* Knowledge of health and social care legislation and guidelines; ability to develop dietetic resources.
* Competency in provision of dietetics in line with current best practice and professional code of conduct.
* Ability to demonstrate multidisciplinary team working and clinical supervision.
* Competent in IT systems – word processing, email, internet.
* Self‑motivated, enthusiastic, innovative, with a portfolio of continuing professional development evidence.
* Ability to travel between Trust sites / clinic venues as required.
* Flexibility to meet unexpected and unusual circumstances relating to direct patient care.
* Membership of the British Dietetic Association.
* Experience in research / clinical audit.
* Experience supervising dietetic staff and student training supervision.
* Management of patients receiving TPN and ability to develop dietetic resources.
