An exciting opportunity has arisen for ambitious,well-motivated individuals to join the leadership team on Mortimer ward. This is a highly valued, rewarding, and challenging rolewith opportunities to improve the delivery of inpatient services.
We have 1 full time and 1 part time (0.5 WTE) vacancy.
The ward is a 20 bedded acute Mental Health Ward situated in TheStonebow Unit, Hereford and is part of the provision of acute inpatientservices across Herefordshire and Worcestershire. It is a vital service forsupporting those with acute mental health difficulties of varying complexities.Patients requiring admission may also have complex physical co morbidities andapplicants should have an interest in both mental and physical health caredelivery. Patients admitted can both be informal or detained under the MentalHealth Act and require a holistic care approach to work towards their Recovery.
The ward has a multi-disciplinary team approach to deliver holisticcare. You will also workalongside colleagues in the Crisis Team and Adult Social Care.
Rotational shift pattern system over a 24hours / seven day period. Days - 07.30hrs till 20.00hrs and nights - 19.30hrs till 08.00hrs.
The role will include a combination of clinical and operational dutieswhich will support the maintenance of quality and standards for patientexperiences. There will be a strong staff focus, inclusive of HR Processes,rostering and the facilitation of staff Appraisals.
Main duties of the job
Maintain highstandards of patient care ensuring all patients individuality, dignity andprivacy is maintained at all times.
To provide keyleadership for the management of day to day duties and patient facing care
To completeoperational duties such as the Health roster, provide line managementsupervision and complete staff appraisals to ensure developmental opportunitiesare captured.
Ensure that eachpatient receives an individual clinical assessment which is the subject of aregularly updated care plan that, wherever practicable, is formulated inconjunction with the patient.
Ensure thatinformation regarding patients needs and progress are communicated promptlyand accurately to their relatives and carers having due regard forconfidentiality.
Provide strongclinical leadership for all staff, maintaining and enhancing own knowledge bymaking use of educational opportunities, under the guidance of the WardManager. This includes appropriate extensions to the role of the nurse/OT inline with NMC/HCPC and Trust policy.
Assist the ward manager with recruitment and retentionof staff

Person Specification
Experience
* Experience in a qualified position preferably gained in more than one area
* Management of staff of varying professions
Qualifications
* Registered with the appropriate professional body
* Registered Mental Nurse (RMN), Registered Nurse (Mental) (RN(M)), or Occupational Therapist (OT)
* Teaching and assessing qualification ENB 997/8 or equivalent
* Evidence of continuous skills and knowledge updating (Personal Portfolio)
* Up to date training in: MAPA techniques (Levels 1, 2 & 3), Intermediate Life Support and treatment of anaphylaxis, Risk management, Mental Health Act 1983, Manual Handling, Fire, Care Programme Approach, NCRS, Blood Glucose monitoring, Basic First Aid
* I understand that I will be asked to provide original certificates to verify my qualifications at point of offer.
* Training in Leadership and Management
Knowledge
* Knowledge of and the ability to apply the principles of the NMC/HCPC Code of Professional Conduct
* Knowledge of national and Trust policies and procedures and how to access them
* Evidence of recent clinical update or training relevant to the post
* Knowledge of national trends in mental health care
* Promote peoples equality, diversity and rights
* Knowledge of Clinical Governance and a commitment to clinical supervision
* Understand the roles and functions of the Crisis Resolution, Home Treatment, Assertive Outreach and Community Mental Health teams, and liaise with them appropriately
* To be in receipt of regular clinical supervision
Skills & Abilities
* Ability to provide a consistent role model to others
* Effective communication skills, written and verbal
* Able to pass on information in a timely and coherent manner, whilst maintaining confidentiality
* Ability to prioritise problems and use clinical judgment to deal with them
* Skilled in dealing with psychiatric emergencies

* Possess a range of clinical skills that can be transferred or adapted for any inpatient area within the Trust

* Able to assess, plan, implement and evaluate programmes of care
* Able to maintain clear and legible documentation
* Ability to recognise own limits
