Role Summary
We are seeking a data driven and strategic Payments Optimization Lead to take ownership of our global payments ecosystem. This role will be responsible for enhancing payment approval rates, reducing costs, mitigating risk, and ensuring a seamless user experience across all touchpoints. You will work cross functionally with Product, Engineering, Finance, and external providers to drive initiatives that improve efficiency, performance, and scalability.
Key Responsibilities
* Implement strategies to monitor and improve payment performance across geographies and product lines.
* Analyze fraud patterns and partner with Risk, Product, and Engineering to reduce chargebacks while maintaining conversion targets.
* Utilize SQL and advanced Excel skills to analyze payment flows, identify bottlenecks, and propose actionable solutions.
* Collaborate with Product and Engineering teams to localize and prioritize new payment methods, improving market-specific performance.
* Proactively identify emerging payment technologies, tools, and providers that can strengthen our competitive edge.
* Track KPIs related to payment health (approval rate, cost per transaction, chargebacks, refund rates, retries, etc.).
* Conduct root cause analysis and implement corrective actions swiftly.
* Drive UX improvements on the checkout page to reduce friction and abandonment.
What Will Make You a Strong Candidate
* +2 years of experience in payments optimization, with a proven track record improving payment acceptance, cost efficiency, and fraud prevention.
* Hands-on experience with payment gateways, acquirers, processors, and payment orchestrators (e.g., Stripe, Braintree, Spreedly, etc.).
* Proficiency in SQL and Advanced Excel (including pivot tables, power query, formulas, data validation).
* Strong understanding of global payment regulations, data compliance, and best practices across regions.
* Ability to interpret technical documentation and collaborate effectively with Product and Engineering teams.
* Ownership mindset and accountability over projects from start to finish.
* Clear and effective communicator, with experience managing stakeholders across technical and non-technical teams.
* Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
* Experience working in fast-paced, high-growth environments with cross-functional exposure.
