Job Description
In F1, communication = performance. From the garage to the pit wall, from our HQ in Grove to the grid, every message matters. We are looking for a Communications Technician to join our team in a hands-on, high-impact role supporting our onsite facilities and race teams with their communication systems.
This is an exciting opportunity to launch or develop your career in elite motorsport, working at the heart of Formula 1 in a role that blends factory-based preparation with the intensity of trackside competition.
About the Role
As a Communications Technician, you will be predominantly based at our HQ in Grove, Oxfordshire, preparing and maintaining communication systems that are critical to race operations. You will travel to all Academy Team race events (approx. 8 events) and support some F1 events during the year from the track meaning worldwide travel while ensuring all of our communications systems are working flawlessly in some of the most high-pressure environments in sport.
You will play a key role in installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting radio and intercom systems that connect drivers, engineers, mechanics, and commercial guests - because in Formula 1, milliseconds matter, and so does every word.
Responsibilities will include:
* Set up and maintenance of RF radio systems and intercoms in onsite facilities (e.g. Simulator and Ops Rooms), and in the trackside garages and pit wall
* Installing, testing, and maintaining belt packs and associated communications equipment
* Programming radios and communication devices with authorised frequencies for each event
* Building and supporting pit wall and driver communication systems, including helmet comms and earpieces
* Coordinating with the Commercial team to provide VIP and guest radio solutions
* Liaising with external suppliers to ensure seamless system performance
* Independently troubleshooting, diagnosing, and repairing communications equipment under time-critical conditions
* Supporting de-rig and pack-up of communications systems post-event when trackside
* Assist with on-site ear moulding sessions for drivers and team personnel
About You
You are self-motivated, hands-on, and composed in pressured technical environments. You’re comfortable taking ownership of problems and solving them independently - especially when time is working against you.
You understand that trackside environments are intense. Deadlines are immovable. Expectations are high. You remain calm, focused, and solution-oriented when it matters most.
We're looking for someone with a solid understanding of RF principles and radio systems, and who understands how various communications systems integrate. You've had exposure to ClearCom or MRTC radios (or similar) and you also have knowledge of networks, for example, VLAN basics and PoE.
You’re willing and able to travel extensively throughout the Academy and Formula 1 season, including weekends and international events, and able to be at the factory when not travelling.
You are:
* Passionate about motorsport and communication technology
* Proactive and capable of working independently
* Calm and decisive under pressure
* Detail-oriented with strong problem-solving ability
* A collaborative team player with clear communication skills
* Flexible and committed to international travel
Most importantly, you must be technically curious, eager to learn, and confident troubleshooting issues independently - both at the factory and at the track.
