Personal Assistant P/T @ £15.00/hr in Leeds
Apply at UKCIL.com. Reference: de88c32b
Pay rate: £15 per hour. Hours: 5 hours per day (11.00-4.00/4.30pm) on Wednesdays and Fridays with additional days on an ad‑hoc basis; a degree of flexibility is necessary as extra hours may be needed for food shopping (on the way to my place), doctors' appointments and any unexpected situations or emergencies.
Location: West Park, North Leeds. Requirements: Own car & driving licence; ability to lift and fit a wheelchair in the car.
I am a man, 66 years old, recovering from a serious illness, seeking a personal assistant. I am in fragile health, easily fatigued and breathless, which means I am not in a position to look after myself. My walking ability is limited, so I use an electric wheelchair.
The role involves ensuring I am safe and supervised, keeping my daily schedule (meals on time, outings at appropriate times before fatigue sets in, etc.). It also includes general housekeeping: I prepare lunch (main meal of the day), afternoon snack, and evening meal; clean, vacuum, dust, change my bed, do laundry, etc.; make phone calls, answer emails, assist with planning and decision‑making, shop for food independently or with me, pick up medication from local pharmacy, handle laundrette drop‑offs and pick‑ups, accompany me to hospital appointments, and participate in daily local 'fresh air' outings (walking with me at a reasonable pace and suitable distance). I may go out for coffee or a meal and, if well enough, take me on a short road trip in a car (e.g., to a nearby café, animal farm, or park). I may accompany me to church and help with any other daily chores and responsibilities that may arise. I can manage short outings up to 1–2 hours, including travel time.
Applicants should be prepared to provide personal care if required, though this is not anticipated to be routine work. My wheelchair weighs 10 kg, so physical ability to lift it in and out of a car boot is essential.
There is scope for more days and hours once a good working relationship is established. Ideally, the PA would also be available to stay overnight as a live‑in carer to provide respite for occasional days or up to a week for my partner (my main carer). I am immunocompromised, so someone with excellent hygiene standards for food preparation, hand hygiene and general cleanliness of the flat is required.
My interests include classical, pop and folk music, film, cooking (which I cannot do at the moment), outdoor activities and reading.
I am looking for a friendly, responsible and reliable person who can fully understand my situation and health limits/risks, who can be professional and thorough in their work, and who knows how to manage their schedule efficiently—juggling all duties on the day while making sure all my needs are met effectively.
