Lecturer in Biotechnology (Research and Teaching) (AP12828) - Bath, BA2 7AY
We are seeking an outstanding researcher as a Lecturer (Assistant Professor) in Biotechnology to strengthen the team that delivers our highly successful MSc Biotechnology degree, while contributing to our undergraduate programmes.
This represents an exceptional opportunity for an established researcher, with an internationally competitive research programme, to develop new synergies across the vibrant department of Life Sciences and its interdisciplinary research centres. Current research strengths include: medical, microbial, and plant biotechnology, the evolution of drug resistance, and the development of novel drugs for health and agriculture.
You will have an active research programme and a proven track record of innovation and high impact publication in any aspect of biotechnology. These include but are not restricted to: health and sustainable biotechnologies, synthetic biology and biomaterials
As well as conducting innovative externally funded research, you will be encouraged to contribute to the delivery and development of taught courses at undergraduate and master’s level and to supervise postgraduate research students. You should be able to take on additional support roles including acting as an Academic Advisor .
About the Department ?
The Department of Life Sciences is located on the main University campus, in close proximity to the Departments of Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics and Physics. There is a strong interdisciplinary and collaborative culture across departments, fostered by a number of research centres including those for Bioengineering and Biomedical Technologies, Drug Discovery, Mathematical Biology and Milner Centre for Evolution.
The University of Bath offers cutting-edge High-Performance Computing (HPC) facilities that support advanced research across all fields. Researchers have access to three powerful computing environments: Nimbus, a scalable cloud-based supercomputer hosted on Microsoft Azure; Anatra, an on-site high-throughput computing cluster; and Isambard 3, a regional GW4 supercomputer. The University Imaging Facility (confocal, multi-photon and light-sheet microscopes, flow cytometry and a full spectrum cell analyser) and a Chemical Characterisation Facility including mass spectrometry. The department boasts a suite of molecular microbiology labs, bioreactors, environmentally controlled culture rooms as well as greenhouses, a GridION and PromethION 2 Solo nanopore sequencing facility and a range of dedicated microscopes including confocal and 2-photon.
