Product Safety Engineer
Location: Filton
Duration: 12 Months
Working Pattern: 2–3 days onsite per week
Rate: £60.00 per hour PAYE or £81.05 Umbrella
IR35 Status: Inside IR35

BAE Systems are seeking an experienced Principal Engineer – Product Safety to support complex naval defence programmes within the Product Safety team.
This role will focus on:
1. Hazard identification and risk management
2. Safety case development and assurance activities
3. Supporting Technical Authorities with product safety expertise
4. Conducting safety assessments across major subsystems and technologies
5. Facilitating HAZID workshops and stakeholder engagement
6. Supporting compliance with defence safety standards including Def Stan 00-056, JSP430, and MIL-STD-882E
Essential Experience
7. Strong Product Safety engineering background within defence, naval, or highly regulated industries
8. Experience developing safety cases and managing hazard logs
9. Familiarity with Life Cycle Management (LCM)
10. Knowledge of defence safety standards and frameworks
11. Strong stakeholder management and communication skills
Desirable
12. Naval combat systems, sensors, or weapons experience
13. Professional Registration (or working toward)
